As for us for us , the kaumaras, we maintain as the festival as the day Our lord was blessed with The mighty VEL.

And Kaumaram,

Kaumaram is one of the main branches of sanadhana dharma ( Hinduism). As lord Subhramanya is the primary deity.
The followers known as kaumaras. we have branches (sects) within us like tejomayas, jothi woshippers, tantrics, siddha fellowship and so on.

- Tejomayam - It is a sect established by sathguru Shreemath Paambanswamigal- An ardent devotee of Lord murugan. For tejoemayas,  there is no othe god other than murugan, they neither talk about nor praise other gods then murugan. their primary Guru is arunagirinathar and Pamban swamnigal.

- Jothiwoshippers -  It is sect established by Mahaan Shree ramalinga vallalaar. Jothi valipaadu is seeing the God in the form of light. the emphasize on the jeevakarunyam where by helping and feeding others is a path of enlightenment.

- Tantrics - it is also a mythical sect very similar to siddhic way . the yanthra worships and mysticism play important roles. they have livestock sacrifices, some extreme prayers like tanneer amirtha pooja ( dipping fingers in boiling oil to pick the frying cookies and offer to the GOD, meditate in graveyard , paavaadam ( cut the tongue as offering) and so on. its an ancient sect therefore no establisher but only followers.

- Siddha Fellowship - there are a lot following the siddha worships. eventually murugan known as lord of siddhas or Siddha Prime. Now we have like Agasthya sanmarka sangam, siddhar seva sangam and so on.

even though there lots of branches there are certain rules for kaumaras to be followed.
* Worship of God
* Worship of Vel
* Serving Those who in Need
* Serving The gurus
* Do not ever discriminate any other Gods.

- Worship Of God,
As a Primary God, Lord Murugan performs everything ,everywhere and every time. Chanting His name, reciting kavacham, reading thirupugal and kandhapuranam and perform prayers form him will bring us closer to him and grants all our materialistic and afterlife wishes.

- Worship of Vel
Vel is worshiped as equivalent to Lord Murugan. Vel is him and he, himself  manifested as vel. Worshiping vel will protect us from any harm and clear our obstacles. worshiping Vel also comprises worship the peacock and rooster.

- Serving the needs...
My lord known as annathana prabu. Plus he is kurinji lord where kurinji land was one of the main leans that serves food to people of the other lands... Not only that , according to agama saasthra, no rituals or prayers are considered complete if there is no thanam. Serving the needs will clear our karmas on timely basis

- Serving the gurus
Guru is crucial aspect for kaumaras. Our Lord Himself knows as Shivagurunathan ( The Ultimate Guru of Lord Shiva) , Sarguru ( the guru without flaws)  and Aathiguru ( the Prime guru). Therefore respecting Gurues is respecting my lord himself. Those who are very ardent devotees , My lord himself will send the proper guru to them. For some gifted ones, they will get lord Murugan himself as a guru.  Gurus will lead us to better spiritual path.

- No Discrimination against other Gods. .
Kaumaras are forbidden to discriminate any other gods or religion. We can see other gods through ours and ours through others. Skanda Puranam comprises of the entire puranas. plus lord arunagiri's thirupugal mentioned all the other branches of sanadhana dharma.
